Nancy Manke, 68 of Nevada, died Monday, October 18, 2021, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Nancy was born October 24, 1952, in Boone, Iowa the daughter of Vernon Sprague and Melvina Griffith. She graduated from Ames High School and completed her LPN education in 1973 at Indian Hills Community College and completed her RN education at DMACC in 1983. On September 19, 1979, she was united in marriage to Robert Manke in Des Moines. Nancy lived in Des Moines for more than 30 years and worked at the VA Hospital retiring in 2002. After moving to Nevada, she worked in the kitchen at the Nevada Middle School. Nancy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, an assistant Boy Scout Leader and was an associate for the Head Start program in Nevada. Nancy enjoyed being outdoors, especially at Sopher's Mill near Ames. Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert Manke; her sons, Michael Manke and Patrick Manke; her brothers, Paul (Esther) Janssen and Bob (Patty) Sprague; his sisters, Patty (George) Tolle and Kay Jackson; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Crystal Manke; and two sisters, Joy Murray and Evelyn Ellis. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada.
