Netha Marie Westerly Huntrods, 100, of Collins, Iowa, passed away August 23, 2026, at Story Medical Senior Care in Nevada, Iowa.

She was born on April 3, 1926, in Warren County, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel M. and Zola E. (Barger) Westerly. She attended country school for eight years and graduated from Indianola High School. After taking classes at Simpson College in Indianola, she graduated from Drake University in Des Moines with an elementary education degree.

Netha taught school in rural Warren County and at Canary Lake and Saylor Center in Des Moines, serving as secretary-treasurer of the teacher's association. During the summer, she worked at Des Moines National Bank.

On April 8, 1950, she married Roger Huntrods at the Baptist Church in Indianola. They were married for 72 years.

Netha was active in her church, Nevada Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, nursery supervisor and secretary-treasurer of the Sunday School and Ladies Missionary Society.

She was a typical farm wife who drove a tractor and did chores. She enjoyed sewing, making everything from curtains to prom dresses, and knitting, especially sweaters. She will be fondly remembered for her apple butter, cinnamon rolls, homemade noodles and sour cream raisin pie.

Netha is survived by her children, Diane Huntrods of Des Moines; Dick (Barb) Huntrods of Indianapolis, Indiana; Bob (LeAnne) Huntrods and Mark (Cyndy) Huntrods, both of Collins. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her two brothers, Leonard and Lyle Westerly.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, Nevada.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Nevada Baptist Church, 210 W 3rd St, officiated by Pastor Dennis Reynolds and Trey Perrott. Burial will be at Collins Evergreen Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
