Obituary

Patricia Ann "Patty" (Stookey) McConnell passed away of natural causes on September 4, 2022, surrounded by family at her lifelong home in Nevada, Iowa. Born July 10, 1931, Patty was the daughter of Mable Marie (French) and C. Clarke Stookey.

Patty graduated from Nevada High School in 1949. She wed John Terrence "Terry" McConnell on June 5, 1949. Happily married for 71 years, they enjoyed 21 years of their retirement as "snowbirds" in Mission, Texas. Terry made Patty a fan of the Iowa State Cyclones, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Cubs. Patty retired in 1993 after a 35-year career with Donnelley Marketing. Most recently a member of the Nevada Baptist Church, she was previously a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Nevada, where she served as a deaconess and sang in the choir. Patty was an excellent cook and baker—pies were her specialty—in the tradition of her husband's mother and grandmother.

Family was always of the utmost importance to Patty. She is survived by her sons, John Steven (Yetta) and Murray Clarke (Janice); daughters, Claudia Ann (Rick Piechowiak) and Terri Lynn (Simon Dakarian); grandchildren, Tiffin (Roger Selz), Rachel (Jerrod Jordahl), John (Valerie), Morgan, and Arin Dakarian, Justin, Daniel, Tara, Hannah, and Selma; sisters-in-law, Meredith Hitchings, Lois Berry, Shirley McConnell, and JoAnn McConnell; many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry; brothers-in-law, Max McConnell, Frank McConnell, Bill Berry, Gerald Hitchings and Dick Selby; brother, Harlan Stookey; sister, Shirley (Stookey) Selby; and her parents.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery on Wednesday, September 7. The family requests memorials be directed to the home health division of Mary Greeley Medical Center Hospice via the Mary Greeley Foundation, 1111 Duff Avenue, Ames, IA 50010.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rasmussonfh.com
