Paul Vernon Viers, 90 years old of Maxwell, passed away on March 8, 2024, at his home.

Paul is survived by his three sons: Michael (Sandy) Viers, Greg (Janice) Viers, Steven "Bo" Viers. Nine grandchildren: Jack, Jill, Jamie, Shawna, Casey, Joshua, Michael, Jacob, Levi and Sixteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Mohler) Viers, daughter Susan (Viers) Beck, parents Jack and Vera (Harmon) Viers and brother Kenton Viers.

Paul was born to Jack and Vera (Harmon) Viers on October 21st, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Roberta (Mohler) Viers on December 22nd, 1953, at the Maxwell Methodist Church. He served in the Army from 1953 – 1954 as a Private First-Class Army Artillery. Paul farmed all his adult life and for a short time also worked at the John Deere plant in Ankeny, Iowa.

He was a member of the Maxwell Methodist Church, Maxwell VFW Post 8174, American Legion Post 249, and Masonic Lodge of Nevada F&AM.

Paul's family always came first, and he loved them very much.

His main passion in life was farming, where he placed emphasis on his cow calf herd. The Viers family was one of the first families to bring Charolais cattle (a French beef breed) to central Iowa. He also loved to pheasant hunt and raise German Shorthaired Pointer hunting dogs. Paul was well known in the pheasant hunting world. Paul always knew of just one more place to try and find some birds. The Viers boys heard this many, many times over the years.

Paul liked people. If he knew of some family that had suffered some kind of misfortune, this family would very likely find some cherry cobbler, a note and maybe even some money at their front door.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Maxwell Community Center on March 19, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm.
