Phyllis Louise (Twombly) Martin peacefully passed away at her home October 28, 2025.
Phyllis was born November 25, 1932, in Orient, Iowa, to George Ernest "Shorty" Twombly and Ruth Lois (Slauson) Twombly. She attended elementary school and junior high school in Stuart, Iowa and graduated from McCallsburg, Iowa with the class of 1950. Phyllis and William C. Martin Jr. were united in marriage on Oct 12, 1952. They were the parents of three children: Lisa Diane (Martin) Nicholl, Lori Lynn Martin Elmore and William C. "Marty" Martin III (Kimberly).
From 1950 – 1954 Phyllis was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission as an engineer's assistant until leaving to start their family. While raising her children, she kept busy being a room mother, a girl scout troop leader, organizing activities, attending music, sports and band events. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, played bridge, played league golf at Indian Creek Country Club and bowled in leagues at the Nevada Sports Bowl. In the early 70's the Martins owned Pehrson Lodge on Lake Vermilion in Cook, Minnesota. Phyllis was in charge of meeting and greeting vacationers, and fishermen. After the Pehrson Lodge years she worked part-time 1975-1987 at Tipton Drug in booking and customer service. Since retirement Phyllis spent her valuable free time devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bill; her parents "Shorty" and Ruth Twombly; her sister Mildred "Mid" Marshall; and son in law Paul G. Elmore.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Lisa Martin Nicholl of Winterset, IA, Lori Martin Elmore of Alpharetta, GA, and William C. "Marty" Martin III (Kimberly) of Broomfield, CO; Nieces Michelle (John) Hammond and Mindy (Bart) Smith; grandchildren Amanda Alcorn, Joe Franker, Ross Nicholl, Bennie Sejnoha, Andrew Martin, Tony Franker, Lauren Elmore Lockwood, Megan Elmore, Jake Martin, Katelyn McLaughlin, and Clare Martin; great- grandchildren, Justin Alcorn, Ethan Sejnoha, Ella Alcorn, Juniper Sejnoha, Grady Nicholl, Ryne Martin, Henry Nicholl, Liam Alcorn, Jack Martin, Oakley Nicholl, Greyson Martin and Townes Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Phyllis may be sent to the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.
