Obituary

Ralph Eugene Spaid, 87, of Nevada, Iowa passed away peacefully at Rolling Green surrounded by his family.

Ralph was born November 9, 1937, in a feedlot in Ferguson, Iowa to his parents Charles and Vera Spaid. He had two older brothers, William and Jim. He graduated from Colo High School in 1956. After graduating, Ralph worked as a mechanic in the family's repair shop. Later, Ralph found himself living in Nevada, Iowa. In March of 1961 he was drafted into the Army, where he drove a wrecker and was a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He served for two years and was honorably discharged. Shortly after that he found the love of his life, Joyce May, working at West End Diner. Ralph and Joyce were married June 27, 1966. They had five children together: Charles, Patricia, William, Holly, and Rodney. Ralph spent his life as a hard working man. He worked for Toot farms for 25 years and then worked at Story County as a road mechanic for 10 years. Ralph had a love of working. He worked in the fields, as a mechanic, and when he retired, he still found work to keep him busy such as building live animal traps and getting all the walnuts and mushrooms out of the yard.

Ralph is survived by his children Patricia Seals, Wiliam Spaid, Holly (Jim) Weyant, Rodney (Angie) Spaid; and his many grandchildren: Heather (Chuck) Schadt, Erica Spaid, Charlee Spaid, Mathew Spaid, Mckinley Spaid, Makayla Spaid, Travis (Anna) Vaughn, Trevor (Bri) Vaughn, Tiffany (Brandon) Pennington, Blake Davenport, Austin (Chelsea) Davenport, Libby (Taylor) Keislar, and Brant (Katie) Spaid; also his great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Ralph will be joining his wife Joyce, his son Charlie, his two brothers William and Jim, and his parents.

Ralph's funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Family will greet friends beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Murphy Cemetery in rural Nevada.
