Raymond "Ray" Richard Thompson, 85, of Madrid, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Ray was born on September 5, 1940, to Hawley Thompson and Agnes (Barness) Thompson. He attended school in Fayette, Iowa and worked as an engineer for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad until his retirement. Ray loved being outdoors – camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by the love of his life, Cheryl (Ferguson) Thompson, his parents, three brothers, and a grandson. He is survived by his sister, Berniece Engelbrecht of Cedar Rapids, IA, three children, Shelley Ruff of Folsom, CA, Stacey Anderson of Cambridge, IA, and Tim (Deb) Thompson of Mason City, IA; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date.
