Rev. Stephen John, 73, was born July 25, 1948 in Sibley, IA to Lowell A. and Marilyn L. Koch. He was the oldest of seven children in the Koch family.
Steve attended high school at University High in Iowa City, class of 1966.
He went on to Wartburg college, playing basketball and baseball for the Knights. He began his career teaching and coaching in the Chicago area.
Coaching sports was one of his loves and he was very good at it taking his Mt Carmel High School baseball team to the state championship!
In 1980, he attended Capital University/Trinity Lutheran Seminary and received a MS Divinity degree in 1984.
His first marriage was to Susan Dohl and that union gave them Michael Lowell, Katrina Louise and Daniel John.
Steve's second marriage was to Becky Iceman and to that marriage was born Hannah Rebecca, Thea Jaclene and Rachel Leana.
Steve faithfully served parishes in Worth, IL(St Mark); St John, IN(Holy Shepard); Benton, KY(St Matthew by the Lake); 13 years in Winterset, IA(St Paul) and part-time in Washington, IA(Immanuel).
Preceding him in death are his son, Michael Lowell, his daughter, Katrina(Katy) Louise, his parents, and his sister, Laurie.
Surviving are his son, Dan (Jaime) Koch, and daughters Hannah (Bryce) Bloomquist, Thea (Brian) Steil, and Rachel (Jake) Villhauer, seven grandchildren; Jaidan Michael Koch, Banks Mitchell and Katy Lee Bloomquist, Barrett Iceman and Wescott John Steil, Carver Katrina and Kinnick Keith Villhauer, two sisters, Beth Koch and Becky (Kent) Lewis, three brothers, Tim (Susan) Koch, David (Sandy)Koch, Paul (Candace) Koch, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset, IA on Tuesday, April 12, from 4-7pm. A visitation will take place from 4-6 with a Celebration of Life service from 6-7pm.
