Obituary

Rex Raymond Morrison, 86 of Collins, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Rex was born February 13, 1938, in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Lee R. and Persis Fertig Morrison. When Rex was 8 years old his parents sold their farm in Fergus Falls and returned to Collins. Rex graduated from Collins High School in 1956 and then he enlisted in the United States Navy earning the rank of Radarman 3rd Class. Rex was honorably discharged in 1959. While working at Bourns in Ames he met and later married Judy A. Keltner on April 15, 1962. After he married, Rex had several jobs including Donnelly Marketing, selling Amway, Moorman Feeds, raising various animals on the farm and finally ending up at Sauer-Danfoss in Ames. Rex worked 31 years for Sauer-Danfoss retiring in 2007. When he wasn't working at Sauer-Danfoss Rex would help Judy at Quality Mini-Mart and later at Twin Anchors Restaurant in Colo, IA. With the rest of his time he worked at making the farm look good and later that included planting and maintaining the tree project that consisted of over 3000 tree and shrubs. He made sure a dandelion or thistle didn't have a chance. His John Deere lawn mowers, his Kubota tractor & RTV were like his right hand when working outside. He was meticulous about the maintenance of his equipment and every tool had its place. Like any kid that grew up on a farm in his day, Rex was a very handy person. He could do electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. He used his skills when they built their house and later when they added the Morton buildings.

Rex enjoyed everything about the outdoors including vegetable gardening, deer hunting and fishing. A family tradition was a fishing trip to Battle Lake, MN. Over the years Rex and Judy had campers and then a Motorhome that they used to travel to several places around the country. He was able to travel to Germany several times for work. Rex's two family cruises one to the Caribbean and the other to Alaska were a highlight. When it came down to it Rex's favorite place was being on the farm.

Rex is survived by his children Brenda (Roger) Hansen of Collins and Bradley Morrison of Collins; his grandson Derek Morrison of Urbandale; his former daughter-in-law Mary Ann Webb of Ankeny; his inherited grandchildren: Raychelle (Jason) Thelen of Virginia Beach, VA and Rebekah (Bart) Ver Mulm of Hudson, SD; six inherited great-grandchildren; Brother in-law and Sister in-law Jim and Bonnie Hines of Batavia, IL and numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Steve Merk and his wife Judy in 2023.

A celebration of Rex's life will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada.
