Rex Nicholson, 72, of Fernald, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Rex was born October 25, 1943, in Des Moines to Mercer and Dollie (Fuller) Nicholson. He graduated from Ames High School in 1961 and was united in marriage to Judy Miller on December 8, 1984, in Nashua. Rex had worked for Pacific Fish Market and Dale Nelson Construction in Ames and enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Rex is survived by his wife, Judy of Fernald; his sons: Michael Nicholson of Mondamin and James (Julie) Nicholson of Nevada; his daughter, Tammy Nicholson of Council Bluffs; his brother, Mercer W. "Robert" Nicholson of Elkhart; and his grandchildren: Dillon Nicholson, Misty Hardy and fiancé Nick Johnson, Sophie Thompson, Logan Thompson, Oliver Thompson-Nicholson and Elias Thompson-Nicholson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Nicholson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 25 at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Rex.
