Obituary

Richard John Collins, 86 of Colo, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Richard was born March 31, 1931, in Nevada, the son of Harvey and Leota (Peterson) Collins. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Martha Jean Greiner on March 2, 1952, in Eagleville, Missouri. Richard was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and the Elks Lodge in Pleasant Hill. He farmed most of his life near Nevada and Colo and had served as a 4-H leader for the Nevada Neighbors. Richard enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling and spending time with his family. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha of Colo; his sons: Jim (Gail) Collins of Colo, Jeff (Robin) Collins of Nevada and Jerald Collins of Maxwell; his grandchildren: Jamie (Mike) Moret, Megan Collins and fiancé Robert Neilson, Amy (Jereme) Cox and Nathan Collins; his great-grandchildren: Lola Cox, Tyce Moret, Jordan Cox and Reece Moret; and his brother, Robert (Martha) Collins of Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Michael Collins; and his brother, Max Collins. Memorial visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada (1418 Fawcett Pkwy). Casual attire is requested. Private burial of cremated remains will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colo First Responders or a local charity of your choice. Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
