Richard "Dick"
Allen
October 1, 1939 – May 2, 2026
Richard "Dick" Allen, age 86, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Windsor Manor in Nevada.
Dick was born October 1, 1939, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of William and Hazel (Miller) Allen. After William's death, he was raised by Bob and Maude Hostetler of Colo. He graduated from Colo High School in 1957.
Dick held various jobs throughout his life, including Donnelly Marketing, Burnett Electric, Nevada Distributing, Electrical Wholesale, and Ryerson Implement where he was the parts manager. He also farmed. In retirement, he bought a semi and hauled grain.
On October 7th, 1961, he married Marlene Faye Riese. That marriage produced three sons, Michael, James, and Steven. Later, he met the true love of his life, Rosemary Anne Taylor. On November 25, 1996, they were united in marriage at the Little Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dick loved antique cars and tractors and was always tinkering on something—especially if it was acquired on the cheap from a garage sale or a friend. He tried his hand at other things in life. In his younger years, he rode motorcycles and raced stock cars, competing in the weekly shows at Marshalltown. In his later years, he found a new passion, cycling. Starting with a JC Penny 3-speed purchased for $10 at a (you guessed it!) garage sale, that parlayed into nicer bikes and ultimately participation in RAGBRAI…which he rode several of with his last coming at the ripe young age of 78! He and Rose also enjoyed camping, and took several trips in the RV. In retirement, most mornings he could be found at McDonald's in Nevada for coffee with the gang discussing the issues of the day and solving the world's problems. And while Rose was still working, he would often get his lunches at Snacktime as well.
For those that knew Dick, he sure got his money's worth out of life. He always enjoyed a cold Miller Lite, be it at the kitchen table, the garage, or at the local watering hole with his friends. While the last few years with Alzheimer's were not so good, his first 80+ years were great. And although we're going to miss him dearly, we're glad he's at peace and grateful for the wisdom he provided…solicited or otherwise!
Dick is survived by his wife, Rosemary of State Center; his children, Mike (Diane) Allen of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jim (Rhonda) Allen of Marshalltown, and Steve Allen of Nevada; his step-sons, Brad (Kristin) Amos of State Center and Bryce (Sherry) Amos of Carlisle; his grandchildren, Sarah and Melissa Allen, Madalynn (Daniel) Habron, Caroline and Brendan Amos, Hayden (Kasey) Amos, and McKenzie Amos; his sisters-in-law, Lois Allen and Sharan Davis; and his former daughter-in-law, Jill Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Bob and Fred Allen, and his "other" siblings Roy Hostetler and Ruth Hostetler.
A private memorial service will be held, and he will be laid to rest at the Colo Cemetery in Colo.
Memorial donations may be made to Colo-NESCO School for scholarships.
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.rasmussonfh.com.
