Obituary

Richard Wendell 'Dick' Couser peacefully went Home to Jesus March 6, 2022, at Story Medical Senior Care. The son of Edward James and Anna Day Couser, grandson of George W. Day longtime farmer and thrasher northwest of Nevada. Dick was born Dec. 9, 1929, at the Nevada Sanatorium. He was Baptized, Married, and attended Memorial Lutheran Church of Nevada. He attended and graduated from Milford Consolidated School May 1947. He enjoyed sports; music was always active in the communities where he lived. Following graduation, he worked for John Cessford at the Nevada Implt. Co. attending service and sales school. Sept. 28, 1952, he married his sweetheart, JoAnn Anderson, after she received her RN diploma. Daughter of Clarence and Carrie, Sampson Anderson of Zearing. Dick and Jo farmed in the Colo, McCallsburg and Nevada areas before building their home in Nevada Feb. 6, 1993. Dick served eight years in the Iowa Natl. Guard, US Army, welding school and returned to farming. He was a 71-year member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge, active in the Nevada American Legion, Church Boards, choirs, Coop Board Pres, Pork Assoc. Soybean Assoc. Corn Growers Assoc., Lincolnway Energy, 4-H leader, Milford Alumni, and community projects. Dick and JoAnn enjoyed their church family and did meals on wheels for Nevada residents from Story County Hospital. They enjoyed planned and unplanned trips, cards and games, Iowa State games and performances, school and other activities with grandchildren and their parents whenever possible. He said his grandparents and parents made it possible for him to have the best of schools, churches, and communities with the best of neighbors and friends. We feel our family has been blessed in many ways. Dick is survived by his wife JoAnn of 69 ½ years, three children, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Wm. Bill (Nancy) Couser, Cathy (Paul-deceased) Frey, Doug (Brenda) Couser. Grandchildren, Casey (Brigietta) Couser, Tim Couser, Rebecca (J) Winkowski, Mandy Frey, Jason (Sarah) Couser and Brooke (Amy) Delpierre. Great Grandchildren, James, Anya, Cora, Grayson, Everly, Damien, Dakota, Axel, and Raylan. Dick's fondness of JoAnn's families; Sisters in law LaVonne Christianson, Linda Tett, brothers in law Lloyd (JaNelle) Anderson, Dennis (Pat) Anderson, grand nieces, nephews, and several cousins. He was proceeded in death by his mother Anna, father Edward, stepmother Daisy Guthrie Couser, sister-in-law Jan Anderson, brothers in law Laverne Christianson, Ron Tett, nephew Jim Christianson and son in law Paul Frey A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada with Pastor Kathleen Lotz officiating. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by going to https://www.youtube.com/c/MemorialLutheran and clicking on the video marked "live". Burial with military honors will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada. In lieu of flowers, direct memorials to Memorial Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge #99- Community Cupboard or to the family to be distributed to Dick's Charities.
