Richard Alan Niederjohn, 78, of Ames, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Richard was born February 11, 1937, in Boone to Clarence and Lois (Freetag) Niederjohn. On May 9, 1964, he was united in marriage to Lola Miller in Rockwell City. Richard enjoyed playing the organ, crossword puzzles, Lawrence Welk and classic country music. Most of all, he enjoyed the time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Richard is survived by his son, Brian (Traci) Niederjohn of Nevada; his daughter, Michelle "Shelly" (Jerry) Karsjen of Nevada; his grandchildren: Amanda Vansice, Ashley Niederjohn, Chris Lowe and Austin Niederjohn; three great-granddaughters, Mary, Alison and Alexis Lowe. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lola; and sister, Shirley Heck. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard Niederjohn memorial fund.
