Obituary

Richard "Red" Huff, 84 ¾, died Friday, February 4, 2022, at his home in Nevada. Red was born March 14, 1937, in Maxwell, the son of Doyle Edgar and Jessie Josephine (Dunahoo) Huff. He attended Shipley High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1954-1956. On September 21, 1958, Red was united in marriage to Elizabeth Harlow at the Nevada Christian Church. Red was a true jack of all trades. He worked for the Nevada post office for 19 years and then started Lincolnway Real Estate, branching out to RC Huff Construction, building homes and later Minsky's Pizza. He then moved on to cable TV installation in Iowa, Tennessee and Texas. After those adventures, he started Little Jake & Company (named for his grandson) and continued driving over-the road until his 80's. Red was a former city councilmen, past member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge, American Legion and the Nevada Jaycees. He enjoyed traveling and had many interests including guns, hunting, fishing, trains, flying his own airplane, NASCAR, George Strait and John Wayne. Most of all, Red enjoyed spending time with his friends and family; he never met a stranger. In the past few years, Red would celebrate his half birthdays – he always looked forward to the gifts and celebration that went along with it. Red is survived by his daughters, Katherine Ann "Kathy" (David) Otto of Maxwell, Patricia Rierson (Duane) Bevitt of Cameron, NC, and Anita Sue Huff of Nevada; his grandson, Jacob (Jess) Rierson; his great-granddaughters, Ren and Fiona; and his bonus great-grandchildren: Jon, Nick (Devin), Kaylee (Dylan) and Maddie. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Arlo; his wife, Elizabeth in October; his son-in-law, Matthew Rierson; and his grandson, Kaleb Rierson. A graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with Pastor David Burling officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bliss Cancer Center in Ames in memory of Red. Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
