Rodger "Dean" Tacker, 71 of Ames, died Friday, July 1, 2022, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Dean was born December 14, 1950, in Wyandotte, Michigan, the son of JamesDouglas and Bonnie Jane (Rodgers) Tacker. He graduated from Kennedy High School before enlisting in the United States Army.
Dean served in two tours during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam war. During which he was awarded an air medal, combat infantry badge, Vietnam campaign medal and a purple heart. He later worked as an over the road truck driver. Dean looked forward to football season every year and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, grandkids and his beloved dog, Peanut.
Dean is survived by his sister, Marilyn "Jo"(Greg) Moore of Howell Michigan; his daughter, Jeanette (Tim) Haigwood of Ames; his grandchildren, Jacob Tacker, Jordan Tacker, Carter Houchin and Irrys Humphrey; his bonus grandchildren, McKenzie, Madison and Marissa Haigwood; his great-grandchildren, Aaden, Gracie and Vinny; his former spouse and friend, Cathy Acosta of Ames. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Greg Tacker and James Douglas "Junior" Tacker; and his sister, Evelyn "Jeanie" Castoro.
Dean has been cremated and burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
