Rodger Dean Huggins, 86 of Maxwell, died Sunday, December 4, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

Rodger was born November 27, 1936, in Farrar, Iowa, the son of Louis William and Marie A. (Andrews) Huggins. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1955, and upon graduation, enlisted in the United States Army. Rodger was united in marriage to Verlie May Etnier on June 27, 1959, in Collins and to this union, four children were born: Jon, Judi, Jim and Joel.

Rodger farmed most of his life near Maxwell and had jobs working at Golly's Locker, the City of Maxwell and ADA Mowing. He enjoyed racing with X50 and spending time in the shop. Known as "GPA", Rodger loved his grandchildren and supported them in all their activities. He will be remembered for his stubborn personality and being set in his ways, but also being the first one to drop what he was doing to help you. Rodger always put his family first in everything he did.

Rodger is survived by his wife, Verlie of Maxwell; his children, Jon (Tammy), Jim (Joni), Joel (Dannette) and Judi; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grand-daughter, and two sons-in-law.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (422 First Street) in Maxwell. Family will greet friends beginning at 12 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Maxwell.
