Obituary

Roger Berndt, 79 of Buckeye, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Roger was born February 16, 1945, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Lyle and Iris Verdell (Radohl) Berndt. He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1963 and enlisted in the United States Navy CB's serving from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1967. On August 5, 1967, Roger was united in marriage to Shirley Lee Schaller in Buckeye.

Roger worked in construction in Iowa and Arizona. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Iowa Falls and a past member of the VFW in Buckeye. He enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, especially to Durango, CO. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. He was very mechanical and was always tinkering with something; he wanted to know how things worked. Roger had a pilot license, built two experimental airplanes and loved to fly.

Roger is survived by his wife Shirley of Buckeye; his sisters-in-law Josephine Berndt and Hildegard Berndt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers: Eugene, Jerry and Richard Berndt.

In keeping with Roger's wishes, he has been cremated and no services are planned.
