Ronald "Ron" Dean Wheat, 61 of Nevada, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Ron was born in Nevada, IA on March 13, 1963, the son of Roy Darrel and Sharon Lea (Robertson) Wheat. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1981 and attended Simpson College. Ron worked in retail, most recently at Diamond Vogel Paint in Ames.

Ron always looked forward to Thursday nights playing poker with the Nevada Iowa Poker Club at Cubbies. He enjoyed all sports and especially following the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Ron coached his kids in sports when they were growing up.

Ron is survived by his sons Sean Wheat and Brandon Wheat; his father Darrel Wheat; his sisters Sonja (Gary) Plunkett, Rhonda (Kurt) Haun, Candy (Mike) Gaedke and Dorene (Greg) Cory. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Lea Wheat, his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his aunt, Mary Lee Wheat.

Ron has been cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
