Obituary

Russell Pevestorf, 54, of rural Nevada, died Wednesday morning, June 25th, at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services celebrating Russ's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28th, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with his brother-in-law Ben Ramirez officiating. Private family interment will be in the Murphy Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is entrusted with Russ's services. Born on November 15th, 1953, at the Story County Hospital in Nevada, Russ was one of five children born to Loren and Mary (Knight) Pevestorf. He graduated from the Nevada High School's Class of 1971 and attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa. He was a long haul driver for Ashley Furniture in Wisconsin and enjoyed hunting, golf, and making everyone laugh. Russ knew no strangers and played baseball in years past as well as high school and college wrestling. Most recently, he was awarded a 1,000,000 mile safety award for no accidents. His recent hobbies also included photography and bird watching. Left to celebrate his life are his sons, Jason of Nevada and Chad of Melbourne, his parents Loren and Mary, siblings: Laura Lee (Ben) Ramirez of Des Moines and there five children and seven grandchildren; Ronal of Norwalk and his six children and six grandchildren, Roger of Nevada and Brenda (Dave) Janson of Colo, as well as a host of friends. In death, Russ has rejoined his grandparents. Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
