(Chance) Buckroyd
October 1, 1938 – February 3, 2022
Ruth Elaine Chance Buckroyd, 83 of Nevada, died Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames following a short battle with cancer.
Ruth was born October 1, 1938, in Melvin, Iowa the daughter of Wallace Harold and Evelyn Frances (Hinshaw) Chance. She graduated from Thompson High School in Thompson, IA 1956. She attended two years at Mayville State University. Mayville, ND, Taught School second grade in Finley, ND for two years. Worked many years at Donnelly Marketing in Nevada and Ames, IA. Ruth and Robert (Bob) Richard Buckroyd, Jr. were married December 29, 2005 until her death.
Ruth had many hobbies including camping at Lake Rathbun, fishing in Minnesota and trying her luck at Meskwaki Casino in Tama, IA. She also enjoyed being a devout Elvis fan. Ruth loved her dogs, Cinnamon and Lillie Rose and never met a stranger. She notably loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her daughter Jolene had custody of Ruth's cremated remains until the burial.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Bob Buckroyd Jr. of Des Moines; her children: Scott (Betty) Carmody of Henderson, NV, Sean (H.K.) Carmody of Arlington, VA and Jolene (Daniel) Messerli of Nevada; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard (Mary Butler) Chance of Grimes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joan (John) Williams; along with many beloved friends.
Ruth was cremated after her death. A suspected secret burial was held December 18, 2022, without the proper authorization. Her husband and sons were not notified prior to the burial.
