Ruth Melvina Yocom, 90, beloved wife and loving mother, died on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, of natural causes at Story Medical Senior Care, Nevada, Iowa.

Ruth was born to Richard and Flossy (Hopper) Pierce in Nevada, IA. Ruth was the oldest of eight children. Growing up, she embraced the responsibility of being the oldest child, caring for the needs and concerns of her brothers and sisters.

Ruth was a devoted wife to Darrell "Duffy" Yocom and mother to sons Jerry, Stephen, and Gary. She was a homemaker who some might remember as an incredible baker. It was not unusual for her boys to come home after school to tables in the kitchen covered with hot buttered rolls, loaves of bread, and cinnamon rolls. Wherever she and Duffy lived, Ruth was always able to make friends and participate in community events. Craftwork provided an outlet for her creative side. She loved working with yarn, especially using it to craft with plastic canvas.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Jerry (Katie) and Gary (Lucy), grandchildren Anna, Halle, Brent ("Bones"), Jeff (Lexi), and Dakota, as well as many great-grandchildren. Sandy, Robert (Sylvia), and Beverly (Bob) are Ruth's surviving siblings.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Duffy; son, Stephen; brothers Ray, Jim, and Alvin; and sister, Donna.

Ruth will be remembered by those closest to her for her indomitable spirit, her capacity to endure, and her ability to always persevere.
