Sandy Mae VanNostrand 37, of Nevada, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at her home in Nevada following a battle with cancer.

Sandy was born December 1, 1985, in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Charles Seastrand and Patricia Devens. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 2004 and earned degrees from Iowa State in Child, Adult, and Family Services and Early Childhood Education. Sandy was a preschool teacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church for seven years until her diagnosis in 2021.

Sandy was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. She had a very strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ.

Sandy was deeply involved with her daughter Amelia's American Heritage Girls troop, hosted by St Paul Lutheran Church. She served as Charter Representative on the troop's board and as a leader. Sandy's greatest joy was spending time with her family and being a mom to her girls.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Greg of Nevada; her daughters, Amelia and Ellianna both at home; her parents, Charles Seastrand of Kesley and Patricia Devens of Kelley; and her sisters, Sally (Joel) Bartlett of Kelley, Sarah (Mike) Mundy of Des Moines and Sadie (Nate) Hatting of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

A visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2023, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (610 15th Street) in Ames with Pastor Todd Jenks officiating. Interment will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in memory of Sandy for their use to be determined at a later date.
