Obituary

Shari Ann Skinner, age 80, of Cambridge, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born July 14, 1945, to Avery and Lucille Patton, Shari spent her life dedicated to family, friends, and her community.

Shari grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and siblings. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1963. On June 12, 1965, Shari married her high school sweetheart, James Howard Skinner, at the Loring United Methodist Church near Maxwell. Their union blossomed into sixty wonderful years together, filled with devotion and partnership.

With a strong work ethic and commitment to helping others, Shari spent over 20 years working in the insurance industry.

Shari was well known for her enthusiastic support of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. She enjoyed sharing coffee with friends, engaging in lively card games, and solving puzzles. One of her greatest joys was riding around her property with Jim on the gator, admiring the beauty of her flowers and plants. Shari loved to be a grandma and cherished the time that was spent with her grandchildren.

Family was at the heart of Shari's life. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jim; her children Julie (Mike) Bruns of Van Meter, Jeff (Eleni) Skinner of Maxwell, and Jyl (David) Wonnell of Cambridge; her grandchildren Jordan (Rachel) Bruns, Zach (Kacie) Bruns, Jacob (Kyle) Skinner, Carson (Josie) Skinner, Elizabeth Skinner, Jo Skinner, Ally Wonnell, and Rey Wonnell; and her great-grandchildren Hannah Bruns and Arthur Bruns. Shari is also survived by her brother Jack Patton of Bondurant, and her sisters Judy Sherman of Indianola and Peg (Ron) Moffitt of Thayer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Lucille Patton; and her siblings Francis Patton, Jeanie Patton, Jim Patton, Russell Patton, Nellene Decker, and Avery "Junior" Patton.

A graveside service honoring Shari's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Ashton Cemetery (8887 W 122nd Street N) near Mingo. Family, friends, and all who knew Shari are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
