Obituary

Sophus Morck, 85, of Boone, Iowa, died March 6, 2011, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. Sophus was born July 14, 1925 at Ames, Iowa, the son of Sophus Heinrich and Clara (Petersen) Morck. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1943 and attended a year of college. He was united in marriage to Esther Allard on August 16, 1952 at Gilbert, Iowa. Sophus served with the US Navy during WWII. He was an electrician for Dave Fitz Electric in Ames and the Department of Energy working in electrical generation and distribution, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone; Scottsdale Copper Statesmen Chapter of SPEBSQSA; Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and enjoyed Barbershop Chorus and Quartet singing, hunting and fishing and looked forward to attending the Navy Reunions throughout the country - USS Fowler 222. Survivors include his wife Esther of Boone; a son, Steven Morck of Coolidge, Arizona; and a daughter, Sharon Louise Hunt of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren: Heather Nichols, Jessica Perkins, and Vincent Sweet, and three great grandchildren: Morrow, Molly and Gavin. Sophus was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Galen Morck and Richard Morck; and a sister: Betty Jane Freese. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sophus Morck Memorial Fund to benefit Israel Family Hospice House at U S Bank in Boone, Iowa or any U S Bank. Bacon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
