Stephen "Shawn" Flynn, 59 of Nevada, died Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Story Medical Center in Nevada. Shawn was born October 15, 1962, in Nevada, Iowa the son of Merrill "Galen" Flynn and Marlene Kay Thompson. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1981 and farmed with Flynn Brothers Farms for 30 years. Shawn enjoyed watching NASCAR, showing cattle and farming. He especially loved to spend time fishing at his dad's cabin in Canada. Shawn is survived by his daughters: Stephanie (Jordon) Haywood of Albia, Megan (Aaron) Alliger of Gowrie and Breanna (Luke) Anstoeter of Glidden; his parents, Galen (Jackie A.) Flynn of Colo and Marlene Anderson of Nevada; his former wife of 30 years, Jackie M. Flynn; his grandchildren: Zach Armstrong, Alyson, Ty and Mylea Haywood, Brylee, Brinlynn, Bailey and Colton Alliger, Taylee and Teagan Anstoeter; his brothers, Gene (Patty) Flynn of Nevada and Todd (Kim) Flynn of Nevada; many aunts and an uncle; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his niece, Melissa Viers; his stepfather, Les Anderson and a maternal uncle, Kenneth Thompson. A celebration of Shawn's life will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Burial will be at a later date in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Story County Fair in memory of Shawn.
