Susie A. Harris, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa died Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Fountain West Health Center in West Des Moines. Susie was born October 5, 1924 at Hector, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Susan (Rist) Reid. Susie graduated from Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, High School in 1943. After high school, she attended Chicago Evangelistic Institute and graduated in 1945. She was united in marriage to Merne A. Harris on July 9, 1946 in Oregon, Illinois. He preceded Susie in death on March 3, 2007. Susie was an Educator and Homemaker. In 1968, she founded Kiddie Kollege, in University Park and retired in 1985. Susie was a member of Debra Heights Wesleyan Church. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed making candles. Susie loved her family and is survived by her son: Bob Harris of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters: Sharon Cox of West Des Moines, Iowa, Sandra Harris of Los Angeles, California; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Susie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers: John, Charles, James; and four sisters: Dorothy, Celia, Faith and Lola. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Debra Heights Wesleyan Church. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 29, 2015, at Debra Heights Wesleyan Church. Interment will be at 1:00 PM Friday, at the University Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vennard College Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
