Thomas Edward Haller, 90, entered eternal life surrounded by his family on August 29, 2026.

Tom was born on March 1st 1936, in Sioux City, IA, to John and Sarah (Halverson) Haller. He was preceded in death by his four siblings: John Haller, Pauline Meloy, Sally Oswald, and Phyllis Bergstrom.

Tom enjoyed planting “faith seeds” in his community by handing out clothespins with Christian messages, beautiful handmade crosses, trail-mix and, of course, his contagious smiles and healing hugs.

Tom’s “dad jokes” were legendary. They could incite a chuckle, cause you to think, or leave you stumped. You never knew which one, but a mischievous smile always accompanied his delivery.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Mary Sue Haller (Van Sickle); and his four children. John Thomas Haller and Cathy (wife), Heather Roberts and John (husband), Holly Richardson and Ryan (husband) and Joseph Haller and Michelle (wife). God blessed him with eleven grandchildren he adored: Bryce Drecktrah, Gabriel Roberts, Gavin Roberts, Madelyn Richardson, Lukas Haller, Joe Richardson, Grace Roberts, Sarah Haller, Levi Richardson, Abigail Roberts, Zackary Haller.

Wherever he lived, Tom was always very active in church and community activities. He attended Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, Iowa.

Tom was a vital part of every educational system he worked in. He was an English teacher in Rock Rapids, IA. A guidance counselor in South Sioux City, Carrol, and Prairie City Monroe. He was a high school principal in Laurel, NE, and Battle Creek, IA. He was a superintendent in Dows, IA.

A visitation will be 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, in Nevada. His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, at Heartland Baptist Church, 3333 Stange Road in Ames.
