August 21, 1937 – October 21, 2024
Thomas Harry Plunkett, age 87, peacefully joined our Father in heaven on October 21st. He was born in Des Moines Iowa on August 21, 1937 to Robert and Hilda (Erickson) Plunkett and attended country school in the Algona area until fifth grade. Tom moved to Maxwell Iowa and graduated from there in 1955 and married Karen (Haley) Plunkett on November 22, 1959.
Tom worked a short period of his life at John Deere, but his passion was in farming. He moved to the home place in 1963. He and Karen built their new home in 1970 where they continued to live and farm. Tom was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Maxwell for over 50 years and was a long-time member of Maxwell Lion's. He worked for the ASCS in Nevada for over 40 years measuring bins along with being an Indian Creek trustee for over 35 years.
Tom enjoyed the local men's coffee gatherings in Maxwell, riding in the WHO Tractor Rides, purchasing and refurbishing (tinkering on) old tractors, and collecting toy tractors and combines. He and Karen also enjoyed going to Branson with their lifelong friends. Grandpa Tom loved to talk about farming, his tractors and taking the grandkids and great grandkids out to feed his sheep.
Tom is survived by his wife, Karen Plunkett; children, son Gary (Sonja) Plunkett of Maxwell, daughter Deanna (Rob) Davis of Maxwell, daughter in law Karmen Plunkett of Maxwell grandchildren, Eric (Rachael) Plunkett, Kristin (Patrick) Hanson, Shawn (Alyssa) Plunkett, Ryan (Katie) Plunkett, Luke Plunkett, Carter Davis and Arianna Davis; and great grandchildren, Vaelin, Hunter, Madelynn, Olivia, Eli, Maren, Nora, Nash, Rhett and Weiylan; sisters, Betty Krisher of Wisconsin, Dorothy (Mick) Frank of Michigan, Jackie Forker of Florida; brother Cliff (Linda) Plunkett of Wisconsin; brothers in law Don Brown of Wisconsin, Junior Haley of Maxwell, Ron (Dianna) Haley of Nevada and Gary Clouser of Ames; sister in law Linda (Jack) Cheek of Ames.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his parents in-laws (Oliver and Maxine Haley); son, Brad Plunkett; sisters, Roberta Brown, Ida Morse; brothers in law, Jerry Cheek, Bob Hathaway, Keith Krisher, Alan Forker and Ed Morse; sisters in law, Julie Clouser and Jan Hathaway; nephew, Michael Hathaway.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24th, 2024 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Maxwell.
Memorial services will be held Friday, October 25th, 2024 at 11:00 am., at First Presbyterian Church in Maxwell. Graveside service at Maxwell Peoria Cemetery, followed by lunch at the Maxwell Area Community Center.
