Viola May Mitchell was called to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, September 26th,2023. Viola was affectionally called Granny by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her numerous nieces and nephews referred to her as Auntie Vi.

Viola was born in Nevada, Iowa; December 15th,1932. She was the oldest of 4 daughters born to Harvey and Lena Belle (Wright) Couser. She graduated from Zearing High School in the Class of 1952.

Viola married Harold Mitchell in Nevada, Iowa, December 5th,1956. Harold died September 25, 2022.

Viola was an active member of Nevada First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Women's Circle, and served on several committees.

Viola was an Avon Representative, Housekeeper and Homemaker. She was a great mother, grandmother, and caretaker to her family and many others in the Nevada community. Viola had many interests such as sewing, reading, she had a special love for nature. Viola truly enjoyed baking and cooking. She never let a banana or zucchini go to waste. Viola was known for her embroidery work; such as baby quilts and tea towels.

Viola is survived by daughter, Cindy (Randy) Epperly, Grandson; Brett (Melanie) Epperly, Granddaughter: Brooke (Evan) Uhlmann, 5 great grandchildren: Brynn, Paige, Graceyn, Gannon, and Gabriella. She is also survived by sisters: Marian Mitchell and Sylvia (Robert) Pierce. Also survived by brother in laws; Frank (Nora Jane) Mitchell, Chet (Robin) Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens Cemetery near Nevada.  A reception will follow the burial at the funeral home.
