Viola Almitta Wales, 81, of Maxwell, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. Viola was born October 15, 1935, in Albia, the daughter of Alva and Paulette (Harborson) Stewart. She graduated from Albia High School and was united in marriage to Leonard Wales on June 1, 1956. Viola was a member of the Loring United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, walking, sewing and spending time with her family. Viola is survived by her children: Terry Wales of Maxwell, Marcy (John) Stringer of Des Moines, Donald (Dianne) Wales of Maxwell and Janet (Elias) Alvarez of Ankeny; her sisters: Lodema Stewart of Des Moines and Velma (Rex) Derby of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents: Alva and Paulette; her husband, Leonard; her sister, Charlotte Stewart; and her grandson, Erik Miller. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at the Loring United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
