Virgil L. Hanson, son of Harry and Recksta (Ubben) Hanson was born on August 15, 1929, in Galt, Iowa. He died on December 7, 2022, at Accura Healthcare in Ames, Iowa. He received his early education from a rural school in Liberty Township. In 1949 he married Phyllis Moore of Ames. He served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. To this union a daughter, Shawn was added. They later divorced. In 1972 he married Gleda Beal Whitaker. Gleda passed away in 2009. Virgil owned and operated a body shop in Nevada for many years. He loved camping, fishing, dancing, country music, flying and snowmobiling!

He is survived by his special friend Betty Overton of Des Moines, Grandson Kyle Hanson of California, step-daughter Ronda Melton of Nevada, step-son Ardee Whitaker of Colo, and step grandchildren, a brother, Richard Hanson and wife Joyce of Hubbard, a nephew Larry Draves of Clarion, and many more nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Shawn Hanson of Nevada and his sister Dorothy Hanson Draves of Webster City.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada, family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Nevada Municipal cemetery following the service.
