Wallace Edgar "Pete" Nerness, 87 of Cambridge, died Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Pete was born April 17, 1933, in rural Cambridge, the son of Ole John and Bessie Mildred (Harrison) Nerness. He married Janet Roberta Hahn on July 15, 1952, in Cambridge and served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1955. In early years, he farmed and went to work for John Deere in Ankeny, retiring after 31 ½ years.
Pete was a member of the Cambridge Legion Post #233 and enjoyed tractor pulling, gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Pete is survived by his wife, Janet of Cambridge; his daughter, Rhoda Boyette of Nevada and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Brenda Jean Harker, and brothers: Orlin, Richard, Harlan, and Robert.
Pete has been cremated and no services are planned. Private burial of cremated remains will be at the Cambridge Cemetery.
