Walter Thomas, age 61, of Ogden, IA, formerly of Cambridge, IA, passed away October 31, 2023 at Accura Healthcare of Ogden with family by his side.

Walter Eugene Thomas was born April 12, 1962 in Nevada, IA, the son of Marion Edward and Rozella Ruth Ross Thomas. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1981.

He participated in 4H and liked doing woodworking projects. He worked at Happy Chef during his high school years. After graduation he worked at Donnelly Marketing until they closed in 1999. He then started at Jacobson Warehouse of Barilla and was there for 14 years.

Walt enjoyed going to antique tractor shows, watching westerns on tv and listening to Johnny Cash. He often took short road trips with stops along the way for an A&W root beer. Walt was an occasional fisherman. He was fond of eating morel mushrooms as long as someone else did the hunting.

Walt attended the Maxwell Church of the Brethren.

Walt is survived by his brother, Bill (Deb)Thomas of Cambridge; his nephew Randy (Michelle) Thomas of Spicer, MN; niece Joni (Grant) Brown of Story City; nephew Billy Jr. (Ellie) Thomas of Ankeny; nephew Walker (Leah Richard) Thomas of Cambridge; step-nephews Grant (Kristina Gourd) Harris of Des Moines and Garrett (Lyndsey) Harris of Ames; and 14 grand-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Walt's life will be held from 2-5 p.m at Dorcas Hall in Cambridge on Sunday, November 12, 2023. There will be a short memorial service followed by refreshments and fellowship.
