Wilma H. Vander Wal, 83 of Nevada, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2020, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 29 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
Wilma was born November 29, 1936, in rural Oskaloosa, the daughter of Cecil and Bertha (Ryken) Stouwie. On December 3, 1954, she was united in marriage to Carl Vander Wal in Oskaloosa.
Wilma collected lighthouses, teddy bears and carousels. She enjoyed word search puzzles and traveling with Carl to flea markets, fairs and festivals to sell all kinds of merchandise. Wilma worked for Durham as a school bus monitor in Ames and was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Ames.
Wilma is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl of Nevada; her children: Joyce (Stanley) Elliott of Nevada, Dale (Mari) Vander Wal of Maxwell and Brian Vander Wal of Madrid; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and her sisters: Bernice Hoyt of Pleasantville, Elner Spoelstra of Oskaloosa, Betty (Marvin) Bruxvoort of Pella and Leona Veldhuizen of Leighton. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
