Y-Vonne D. Banks, 90 of Nevada, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Y-Vonne has been cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Y-Vonne, lovingly called "Y," was born February 25, 1929, in Coon Rapids, the daughter of Dewey James and Helen (Sigler) Conner. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1946 and attended beauty school in Des Moines. On July 7, 1951, Y-Vonne was united in marriage to Donald E. Banks in Coon Rapids. Together they farmed in the Zearing/Nevada area before retiring and moving to town. Y-Vonne enjoyed playing cribbage and cards with friends and family. She enthusiastically cheered on the Iowa State Cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes in basketball and football. She loved to be outside and could often be found tending to her flowers and garden. Y-Vonne especially enjoyed spending time with her family, the smells from the kitchen often filling the house. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fondly recall her sweet nature, positivity, and warm love in all that she did. Those left to cherish Y-Vonne's memory are her children: Ed (Sharon) of Garden Grove, Sam of Nevada, Dave of Moravia, and Ben (Joanne) of Grover Beach, CA; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2011; her sister Pat Fairchild; daughter-in-law Carol Banks, and a granddaughter, Kristi Ann Banks.
